Pioneer is the largest operator in the Raton Basin, a long-lived coal bed methane (CBM) gas play with stable production providing a strong foundation for growth generated by new drilling. With an active drilling program and continued efforts to improve field compression capabilities, Pioneer has consistently been growing Raton production.
Our new discovery in the Pierre Shale gas play is being developed under the Raton CBM field and has more than 2 TCF of net resource potential. We initially drilled vertical wells but are now drilling horizontal wells to test the upside in the play. Being under the Raton CBM field allows for Pierre gas production to utilize the same surface facilities as those used for CBM production.
By operating under an integrated field services model and owning much of the equipment required to drill and complete Raton wells, the Company is achieving industry-leading operating efficiencies and maintaining control over the equipment needed to execute its drilling program.
